History from 1887
Because of our years of experience in producing Breton clothing, we offer the highest quality. Our craftmanship is based on a long family tradition.
It starts in 1887 with a factory for hats, caps and lace in the center of Amsterdam.
When my father took over the business, he specialized in making 100% cotton-striped outerwear.
As the youngest son of a family with 4 brothers, I have had my own label since 2011: BRETON STRIPE.
Specialized in stripes
From our own factory, we are completely in control of the production, from the wire to the end product. We knit the cotton thread into a roll, after which it is cut and made up by hand.
We believe it is important that every BRETON STRIPE item is made with great care and is put together ‘stripe by stripe’.
After trial and error and with our many years of experience, we choose the single Jersey and the heavy Jersey quality for the production of the BRETON STRIPE collection. Jersey is a term used to define fabrics of knit construction, made with a knitting machine. This material was first produced in the Middle Ages on the island of Jersey, England.
First, the yarn is dyed, after that the fabric is knitted into a Breton Stripe garment. Jersey is made in one of two knit structures:
Single jersey – a fine, soft quality, knitted with one strand.
Heavy jersey – a thicker quality, this technique was used when the French navy used to sport the Breton Stripe in their uniform.
The production of the articles in Heavy Jersey, Single Jersey and cotton Elastaan takes place 100% within the EU.
Production for 98% within the EU
The production of BRETON STRIPE comes from the EU. Only our raincoats are produced outside Europe. The collection for women, men and children in the fabrics Heavy, Single Jersey and the cotton Elastane are all produced within the EU.
From the factory, all items come together in our warehouse in the Netherlands. From here all orders are carefully packed and shipped. Our office is also located in the warehouse. This is where we coordinate the administration, styling and communication around BRETON STRIPE.
100% cotton OEKO-TEX 100 STANDAARD
BRETON STRIPE is an honest brand. When producing the articles, we take our responsibility towards people and the environment. Our 100% cotton clothing is made within the EU and we use OEKO-TEX 100 STANDARD. This standard focuses on limiting the use of harmful substances in relation to the health of the user.
Our items are in stock in our warehouse in IJmuiden. We provide a constant collection that carries many classic models. As a result, our Breton clothing is not subject to the fast fashion trends. The quality is high and made to wear for several seasons.
Fast delivery: ordered before 4 p.m., shipped the same (working) day
We ship orders from stock every (working) day.
We carefully pack the orders that are placed on the website before 4 p.m. and then send them away using order companies (PostNL/DPD) the same day.
